Cabin Leading at Silver Spur

My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ… Colossians 2:2 NIV

What is a Cabin Leader?

The Cabin Leader is the chaperone of the church group he or she brings (a man for the guys, a woman for the gals). This person eats, sleeps, plays, and hangs out full time with the kids all week or weekend, and is responsible for watching over them physically and spiritually.

Who is a Cabin Leader?

The Cabin Leader is a person who should be mature spiritually and emotionally. The Cabin Leader is one who is to invest in others, not the one coming to camp to be ministered to. There is a difference between what a Cabin Leader should “do” and what a Cabin Leader should “be.” Before noting the “do’s” of leading, reflect upon what a Cabin Leader should “be” in Christian character. Below are traits that will enhance your ministry to kids.

A Cabin Leader should be:

  • Spiritual leader

  • Encourager

  • Yourself – Be Real!

  • Listener

  • Proactive

  • Vulnerable

  • Friendly

  • Understanding

  • Observant

Why Cabin Leaders and not Staff Counselors?

We believe that a camper's experience shouldn't end at camp. By utilizing Cabin Leaders from the student's own church or community, the connections developed at camp can prayerfully be a springboard to a continued relationship of mentoring and growth back home. Having an adult who loves and cares for them in their every day experience is a major influence in the life of any young person.

What kind of a commitment is needed?
Cabin Leaders are asked to commit to the scheduled length of camp (usually one week or a weekend).  Your job as a Cabin Leader is to make sure all your kids are accounted for at all events and to do your best to enhance the spiritual experience of each camper.  While the schedule might seem long, the benefits are deeper relationships with the kids in your cabin, which is often an eternal reward.

How do I become a Cabin Leader?
Cabin Leaders are normally brought with church groups.  If you are interested in cabin leading, talk with your church coordinator for more information or an application.

If you do not have a church group, but still would like to be a cabin leader, contact our office for more information.
