Fifty Years of Christian Camping
Silver Spur is a ministry of Next Generation Churches, a voluntary associations of churches in Northern California and Nevada. Silver Spur has a vision for "partnering with our local churches throughout Northern California and Nevada, with a desire to be an asset and extension of the local church and it's various ministries." Christian camping is an integral part of the total ministry of Christian education; our program centers around our outdoor setting and group living. A camp experience is an outstanding and unique opportunity but it cannot be viewed as an end in itself, it must be integrated with the camper's local church.
Silver Spur was founded in 1965 with a vision of offering summer camps for kids. The initial buildings consisted of the lodge, pool and chapel. As the camp grew, it became apparent that there was a need for a year-round ministry. In 1967, Silver Spur became a ministry of Conservative Baptists of Northern California and Nevada, now known as Next Generation Churches. A group of volunteers built an open air worship building in 1980, which was enclosed in 1985 becoming the Silver Dome, enabling Silver Spur to offer year-round camps and retreats.
In 1985, Silver Creek facility was completed by a group of volunteers. This campsite has individual cabins, dining/meeting building, pool and a spectacular view of the Sierras.
In the early 90's Silver Ridge, a 3-level home on property adjacent to the camp, was purchased and remodeled into a bed and breakfast.
