It is with deep regret that I must announce that Silver Spur Christian Camp & Retreat Center will no longer be hosting its own programmed camps and retreats. The last camp to be offered by Silver Spur will be Winter Camp 2020 for grades 7 to 12. Winter Camp is scheduled from January 24 to 26. We hope that Winter Camp will provide an opportunity for the many churches that have participated in our camps in the past to come together one last time for fellowship and worship.

Moving forward, Silver Spur will focus on its ongoing vision for partnering with local churches, religious organizations and other like-minded non-profits in the fulfillment of their ministry goals. Over the past year, 98 groups and more than 5,500 guests were provided comfortable accommodations, delicious meals and recreational opportunities while their organizational leaders developed quality programs designed to meet their specific group needs. Some of these groups have called Silver Spur home for over three decades.

The decision to no longer provide programmed camps was driven by two factors: declining attendance and rising operational costs. For at least the past decade, Silver Spur’s programmed camps have been underwritten by guest group revenue and subsidies from NextGen churches. By eliminating programmed camps, Silver Spur will be able to continue offering affordable camping experiences to its guest groups while providing them with a venue to reach others for Christ.

I would like to thank the many individuals who have attended Silver Spur sponsored camps or who have helped make those camps possible over the years. Your relationships are precious to us. If you have any questions about the camp’s new direction, or would like to know how you can stay involved as we serve others, please feel free to call me at (209) 928-4248.

As someone who has been coming to Silver Spur for three decades I feel this is a big mistake. I have seen to many lives changed over those years. Both individuals and couples.

It is sad to hear this...
I have been sharing the news about the married couple retreat with my fellow co-workers.
Many young generation married couples do not have place to relax, worship, and cherish the moment with God. Just within my work I have three young married couples struggling with their marriage.
I was going to invite them for next year...
Is there a way to advertise this program better and I can help!

Wow! I have been attending the Women's Retreat for over 20 years. MY life has changed immensely since attending the retreats. I have met so many wonderful women. I am sorry but, this is a huge mistake. I look so forward to attending and renewing my outlook, now, it will be nothing more than a memory.
I am praying and hoping there is a compromise that can be reached.

Thank you for the many years of faithful ministry. I've enjoyed my many times at Silver Spur as a pastor. I will certainly miss the opportunities to be there in the future. So sorry it has come to this.

It’s my understanding that Silver Spur will no longer be coordinating summer or other seasonal opportunities for the public but rather, opening up their calendar for more churches and groups to host. Thank you Silver Spur for your graciousness to the groups who rent from you. The space you provide is heaven on Earth, and we who have been blessed, are forever grateful!

I know this decision was not made lightly and I hope that those who have fond memories of Silver Spur will see the silver lining. The camp is still moving forward and that is amazing!

I am thankful that there is a solution to keep the doors open and know that God will still work mightily through this ministry. Change isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes it’s an opportunity for God to move in a new way.

Hi,

I see your news. I can see a lot of factors affecting this decision. I am encouraged to know that Silver Spur will continue to be a place of ministry.

I am thankful for all of the memories - working in the kitchen, carrying bunk beds, picking up trash, and cleaning restrooms.
More than this are the memories of ministry from the first summer to life at camp year round. Many of those memories are linked to friendships which resulted in churches planted and a 31 year missions ministry connection made during a week at camp!

Thank you
